Sunday Styling - Decluttering your home

If you are thinking of selling your home then decluttering is a MUST DO TASK, but I also love a good declutter at this time of year as we head into peak HYGGE season, and our homes become our hibernation sanctuary.

Decluttering your home can feel like a daunting task, but with the right approach and mindset, it can also be a rewarding experience. Here are some tips we have put together to help you to declutter your home, in Marie Kondo style "does it spark joy?" if it does keep it, if it doesn't toss it!!

Remember, decluttering is not a one-time task but rather an ongoing process. It's important to regularly assess your belongings and get rid of what you no longer need to maintain a clutter-free home.

  1. Start small: Start by decluttering a small area, such as a drawer or a shelf, to build momentum and gain confidence.

  2. Create piles: Create piles of items to keep, donate, sell, or discard. This will help you stay organized and make the process easier.

  3. Set a timeline: Give yourself a deadline to complete the task, such as a week or a month. This will help you stay focused and motivated.

  4. Be ruthless: Be honest with yourself about what you really need and use. If you haven't used or worn something in the past year, it's probably time to let it go.

  5. Use storage solutions: Use storage solutions such as bins, baskets, and shelves to keep your remaining items organized and easy to find.

  6. Get rid of duplicates: Eliminate duplicate items, such as extra kitchen utensils or towels, to free up space.

  7. Keep sentimental items to a minimum: While it's important to keep sentimental items, such as photos or mementos, try to limit the amount you keep to avoid clutter.

  8. Don't buy unnecessary items: Before buying something, ask yourself if you really need it and have a place for it in your home.
